The existing UI was outdates and difficult to navigate

They are an incredibly well-established and impactful organization, and through a site audit I was able to establish some areas for improvement.

I created a mood board that captured the warmth, care, and trust

I also defined target users and examined relevant industries to guide design decisions, ensuring the website would resonate with both donors and community members while effectively communicating the organization’s mission.

From there, I began building a system that would ensure consistency across the design

This involved developing reusable components with clearly defined states—such as buttons, cards, and navigation elements—and establishing guidelines to maintain visual and functional consistency across all pages. This approach allowed the final design to be both efficient to implement and intuitive for users.

The final design of The Good Stuff is a reflection of the life-changing work that the NSCSS does, ensuring safe and happy futures for women and children fleeing violence in BC. The new website feels modern, welcoming, and accessible, better reflecting the trust and care at the heart of NSCSS’s mission.

What I learned

Working on The Good Stuff Connection redesign really showed me how important it is for visual design to reflect a brand’s mission and values. I realized a mood board isn’t just a bunch of pretty images; it is an actual guide to keep colours, typography, and tone consistent. In early iterations, I saw firsthand how testing designs against the mood board helps make sure the warmth and community-focused feel actually comes through.

Building reusable components and a module guide also taught me the value of creating scalable and accessible systems that make future updates easier. Overall, this project strengthened my skills in visual design, user-centered thinking, and designing with impact. It also reminded me that taking the time to iterate thoughtfully leads to stronger and more cohesive results and that small details really do matter when bringing a brand to life.
